Correct. For those who are not aware the newer polycom firware, which is largely untested in community deployments, has a lot of testing to go through. At the same time, there are major rewrites to the way the configuration templates are written, as polycom has simplified the overall configuration file in 3.3.x and later. Testing this in every use case (roughly 100 basic call tests, not to mention nthe new OpenACD is very time consuming). Then please take into considerationt he file format changes, the new features added (reload phone without restarting it, PIN lock, etc.), which takes a lot of focus away from the development side of the system.
IMO - - I think overall the focus is getting 4.6 ready. Once this happends the should be in place a general consensus within the community on how to divide and conquer firmware changes so we can help the developers and shortcut our way to new firmware (and phone models) for polycom support. This will mean major changes to the polycom within sipxconfig, and also how to support perhaps up to three different generations or phones (or what phones to drop support for). This discussion hasn't taken place yet, but I suspect it will when the time is proper.
