We did some work to get the yealink device to autodiscover/register.
But at the time the yealink phones were having a quality control issues
(DHCP failures caused by a manufacturing bug).

Yealink support worked with us to identify the problem but by then we
decided to stop pursing yealink as a viable alternative to polycom.

That was 2 years ago, so perhaps its time to put both pieces to together
and make a nice addition.

Hello there.

We have working plugins for the whole Yealink lineup. Will be able to
send/submit in a couple of weeks after we finish polishing the interface
and complete english properties (started with our native Russian
language).
Almost every feature found in Yealink phone works excellent including
addressbooks, speed dials, MWI, screen logos, etc. T-18, T-22(P), T-26P,
T-28P, T-38G are fully supported. T-32G is under way (just ordered one
for the lab).

We use the IM feature a lot here. You will be very impressed with the
My Buddy feature. One of the benefits of the IM method is it will also
tell you who the person is on the phone with (if that info is enabled).
The My Buddy feature is also very handy. Looking up number and having
your IM dial your phone is pretty impressive. You can even manage your
conference bridge through IM. See who joined, mute calls, have the
bridge dial people in, etc. I barely dial or press any buttons on my
phone. I also use the My Buddy feature. Especially when I can copy past
a number from a web page into my IM and have my phone dial the number
for me.

I agree. Vendors should be whipped into shape. Standards are in
place for a reason. Vendor lock in is a huge problem in most industries
though. When I was researching asterisk, aastra was getting rave
reviews, especially for the price. I really don't have any complaints
about the phones, they work well.

If I had known at the time that they weren't compatible with other
systems, I would have never invested in them.

At this point, I'm looking forward to going standards compliant, and
the sipXecs community is amazing.

Sorry that your current phones don't work. This is what happens when a
phone manufacturer claims to support the SIP RFC's but in reality only
support a subset that plays to a particular vendor's platform (in your
case, Asterisk).

Presence doesn’t seem to be working on Cisco or Aastra phones. And
I’m having issues with the ACD queue and both of these phones as well.

Presence on the PC might not be bad I guess. It’s just much easier to
look at the phone for lights than it is to pull up an app on the PC –
especially when the front office if busy.

I guess we can try the IM presence, use Polycom 550’s and limit the
free lines to the most critical for BLF.

Thanks for your help in all this.

Well, you technically don't have to 'ditch' the aastra phones. You can
manually configure them and they will work, you just might not get all
the same functionality out of them...

Well they don’t all work quite the same way. Grandstream GXP2020’s
have 6 lines, and 7 programmable keys. The programmable keys are used
for BLFs, so I can still have 6 lines and 7 BLFs.

Aastra 9480’s have 4 line keys, plus I The Yealink has 6 lines and 10
programmable keys for BLFs.

I am going to be a little price sensitive when we have about $5000
invested in 11 phones on an Asterisk system that has been acting
strangely for almost 2.5 years now. Now the thought of having to ditch
all of our Aastra phones because they’re not compatible – spending
another $2000-$3000 to completely ditch and upgrade the phones it a
tough pill to swallow, especially for the partners.

Since I’m new to the sipXecs world how does IM play into presence/BLF
functionality? What phones support Dialog? Is Dialog better or just
different that typical BLF? How does Dialog affect end-user
experience?

 Sorry for so many questions.

BLF works the same on all phones from a "how many lines/blf's" do I
have.

Polycom 550 has 4 lines, so if your user has two lines, only will have
two BLF's available. Same for Snom and Yealink.

Perhaps you should examine--Whatever phone works best for your feature
sets AND supports dialog for presence, and simply use the onboard IM
function for BLF monitoring instead of the phone, if you are going to
be that price sensitive.

Is BLF working on the Yealink phones?

I’m trying to decide if I go with the Yealink SIP-T28P or the Snom 370.

Polycom phones are out because you can only put a couple of BLF keys on
the phone. If I go with the 550, the user has 2 lines, I can only put 3
BLF keys on it.

In general between the Yealink and Snom, which phone is best in
quality, reliability, and most importantly, compatibility with sipXecs?

 Thanks.
