Daniel,

In my understanding, a SIP trunk is nothing else than a SIP line, but you
don’t need to register the line, as the other endpoint already have your IP
and SIP URI.

Usually, a SIP trunk also has a maximum capacity (max number of active calls
on the line).

To use a SIP trunk with SIPXTAPI, just declare a line with a standard SIP
URI, but do not register the line. Then configure the other sip trunk
end-point to route calls to your URI and/or accept calls from your URI/IP. I
use this daily with Sipxtapi, Asterisk and other SBC servers, and there is
no problem at all.

Objet : [sipxtapi-dev] SIP Trunk

Hi all,

could anyone explain in simple terms what the difference is between a SIP
softphone and a SIP Trunk? I'm not that familiar with the details of each
one, and what the difference between those two is. So, any help would be
highly appreciated.

Regards,

Daníel
