Hi, I had similar problem once and I think the requirement is that the source version can not be greater than the target version. So source and target should be either 1.5 or 1.6.
You should choose the version dependending on the Java features you use. If you don't use 1.6 features there is no reason why you shouldn't use 1.5. From my experience, OSX 10.6.5 has no problem with source and target set to 1.5.
