>Category: Documentation Group: None >Status: Closed >Resolution: Fixed Priority: 5 Submitted By: Sean Dague (sdague) >Assigned to: dann frazier (dannf) Summary: Update man pages to match --help output Initial Comment: many of the commands have REALLY verbose --help, but don't have that info in the man pages. We should move the verbose usage to the man pages, and make --help take up less than one screen whenever possible. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- >Comment By: Brian Elliott Finley (brianfinley) Date: 2003-07-22 13:30 Message: Logged In: YES user_id=140 I think complete man pages have been created for all commands at this point. If not, a fresh bug should be filed for each one. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Comment By: Sean Dague (sdague) Date: 2002-03-28 08:17 Message: Logged In: YES user_id=21949 I would disagree with this. --help in most Linux commands is for quick usage, i.e. 1 line per flag. This is for a user who is about to run the command, knows what it doesn, but just forgot the syntax. The man page is where the command should be fully explained. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Comment By: Brian Elliott Finley (brianfinley) Date: 2002-03-27 20:48 Message: Logged In: YES user_id=140 I agree that we need to have all of the same information in the man pages, but I also want to keep the verbose help with each utility. The user can always use a pager to manage the extra output. One screen of output just isn't enough for some of the commands. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- You can respond by visiting: https://sourceforge.net/tracker/?func=detail&atid=100259&aid=513504&group_id=259 ------------------------------------------------------- This SF.net email is sponsored by: VM Ware With VMware you can run multiple operating systems on a single machine.
