I think it may be desireable. Let me suggest that you air your design ideas on the sisuite-devel list, and/or on our IRC channel (see systemimager.org/support for irc details). If dannf, sdague, and mchasal bite, then I would work towards patches for now. After the stable 3.2 release (that has been pending forever), we may be able to get you CVS access too.
