In the future I want to dump multistage installs. They are complicated. I will be working on 2 multicast solutions. Both rely on system imager. The first system will use SI as is with it's multicast installer. The 2nd system will use SI to multicast the install sources to local disk, then all nodes will reboot localdisk and perform kickstart or autoyast. The 2nd system allows existing kickstart and autoyast scripts to be supported. Also reinstalls of the cluster after minor changes will be very fast.
BTW, new autoyast in SLES9 has support for multicasting images using flamethrower on the server side and a hacked flamethrower client in ycp, the yast language.
Basically you will be be able to install packages in a directory on the server and use udpcast to install the image.
Everything else just looks the same, instead of specifying packages or selections, you will need to specify a flamethrower module.
Btw, NFS seems the prefered way for installation, but what about FTP or HTTP scaling?

Hello,
I've got some questions about compute nodes installution.
1. Xcat-mini-HOWTO says "Only install 32 at a time or use staging". What caused this restriction? What happens if I install more than 32 compute nodes imultaneously without staging nodes?
2. How many staging nodes can be used simultaneously? Is that also 32 nodes?
3. How many compute nodes can be installed simultaneously when I use staging nodes?
Thank you in advance.
