Title: virtual console
Hey Andrea:

I just built a RPM for SystemImager 3.5.4 (from trunk) and decided to give the virtual console a try and I ran into some issues.  When I double click on the entry in si_monitortk, I get an error message on the console saying:

XS_Tk__Callback_Call error:unknown option "text" at /usr/sbin/si_monitortk line309.

A widget keeps popping up (giving the same message) and the only way to get out of this is to kill the si_monitortk process.

Are there special software requirements for this to work?

I tested with perl-Tk-804.027 and perl-Tk-804.026 and both had the same issue.  This was tested on RHEL4u1 x86 which comes with perl 5.8.5.

Thanks,

Bernard

Subject: virtual console

Hi Bernard,

As we planned in a previous mail I\'ve implemented the \"virtual console\" feature inside the si_monitortk interface of the last trunk. I\'ve included in CC also the sisuite devel list, so also other developers can send their feedback if they want.

Now by double-clicking a client entry in the nodes table a new window is opened and inside it are reported all the messages sent by the \'logmsg\' function.

This doesn\'t replace syslog, it is a simple non-interactive console, so it doesn\'t keep track of all the messages sent before you opened the console, and it doesn\'t depend from the syslog too. So you can use the virtual consoles also if you do not configure the network logging to a log server. I think this feature should be very useful to have a central instrument that can be used to know in real-time and in a simple way what _all_ clients are doing during the installations.

I\'ve performed some little tests with a low number of clients (1-3) and it seems to work correcly, even if it slows down a bit the installation, because all logmsg messages are sent via netcat. Anyway the speed of the image synchronization (via rsync or flamethrower) is the same, so I think this feature doesn\'t not increase the weight of the installations, becuase the bottleneck rests the copy of the image.

Well, every feedback is welcome, but (as I\'ve already said to Bernard and Brian) I will be in vacation until saturday 20 August, so maybe I can\'t be able to read emails in these next days...

Best regards,
-Andrea
