You can turn on sshd.  That's part of how installs over ssh are
performed.  See "Section 3: SSH settings" in examples/local.cfg.

Have a look at that, then make any suggestions for improving it.  The
current implementation is geared towards installs over ssh, but it could
easily be modified to be available for more generic use.

As a matter of fact, one improvement that could be made pretty easily is
the ability to specify the location of the ssh private key (read the
example file first).  It could be made a variable in the system, that
could be specified as a kernel append parameter:

   SI_SSH_PRIV_KEY=/path/keyfile
