Erich, I checked in the .config for i386. Moreover I did also some changes in the x86_64 config, just to make the kernel more aligned with the i386 version (in particular to support the same devices in both archs).
The changes from your version are: - added support for large block devices (and large single file) - used deadline disk scheduler instead of anticipatory (deadline is lighter and with big sequential writes it should give better performances) - added pcmcia network card support - removed advanced routing features (a systemimager client doesn't work as a router, it just copy the files from the image server... at least for now) - added support to more network devices and more disks - removed filesystems extended features (like quota, acl, security, etc..) It should be great if you could do another test with the latest x86_64 config. Moreover if you think that any change is not needed or if we could obtain better performance using other options feel free to check in a different config (or rollback to your version). I've done some quick tests using i386 clients. It seems to be slower than 2.6.16.5, but maybe we need only to do some tunings. Anyway since we're able to support more recent devices I think it's better to include 2.6.18.1. Moreover in i386 with MTRR enabled the installation seems to be a bit slower. All the x86_64 have the MTRR support, but it could be interesting to do a test on a x86_64 using a kernel without MTRR support.
