We had to forward-port older parted and do some other tweaks and limitations (like using primary partitions only); looking at unstable SI branch got us the feeling that adapting it would be harder at this moment (don't know the details, it was a coworker's output). One interesting moment: ALT Linux has switched from usual RH-style initscripts, including network scripts, to /etc/net (see http://etcnet.org); it's much more sane framework, hopefully to be adopted by other vendors.
