Perhaps LILO is prefreed with the 2.0.8 version of systemconfigurator, but one thing I found (through verbose logging) with 2.0.5 was that the PREFERED variable was not being set AT ALL . I had to add inline text in the script (to follow their usage) to add that variable and others.
Our golden image client did not have LILO configured (GRUB only) , so I had to configure it in rescue mode. If you get a golden client working w/ lilo, and pull its image, systemconfigurator should try to run lilo.
