    No .. The hardware is identical. What if the boot partition is not
the hda0 but hda1...?

Is that it?  There is no error there, so I can't see an issue.

Sounds like your initrd isn't right.  Do you have different hardware on
this client vs. the golden one? (especially scsi disk drives).
