Did you reboot after the updateclient? If not - then the new kernel
won't load into memory

golden-client?

Ok. So I boot with rh 9.0 image and then do updateclient with rh 8.0
image. Uname -a tells me that the kernel is 2.4.20-30.9 but
/etc/redhat-release claims that it's rh release 8.0. I am a bit puzzled.
I checked some other files and versions and for example glibc version is

2.2.93-5 which is distributed with rh 8.0. Is this runnig rh 9.0 or 8.0?

Thanks,
Jarek
