Hi All,

Just reporting this as it's caused me a lot of hassle.

We are imaging and installing Dell Precision 670 machines. These come
shipped with SATA drives, which complicates getting our old images (built
on IDE machines) onto them. However the image derived from the 670 machines
(basically forcing SI to use hda not sda where appropriate and vice versa)
does not install back onto a 670 without problems.

When the install is done the grub-install fails (called from
Boot/Grub.pm).

It fails due to the inability to locate /boot, even on a
mounted, chrooted filesystem and spits a lot of "uninitialised" errors for
variables and concatenations within the perl code.
For some reason it just does not want to play fair with /dev/sda1 on the
SATA drives - the install actually works fine to this point.
What we have had to do is add this line to the .master file:

echo "/dev/sda1 / ext3 rw 0 0" > /a/etc/mtab

This goes just before the call to systemconfigurator.

This, for whatever reason, allows grub-install to proceed - without this
mtab entry the behaviour above occurs and this generates an incorrect
device.map in /boot/grub/ - and when the machines reboot we get either a
series of PBR errors, or simply a flashing cursor.

I hope this proves useful to someone else! This is for :

systemimager-i386boot-standard-3.0.0-1

systemimager-server-3.0.0-1

regards,

Dan
