yes, systemconfigurator is a required dependency, but on the image
server.  I've seen that message from chroot when I tried to chroot into
a 64-bit environment from a 32-bit boot cd....

In my case, since I run gentoo, systemconfigurator is useless, so I just
wrote my own chroot script that sets up the networking, and installs
grub.  What distro are you running/installing?
