I am not able to even manually install grub in /dev/hdb. It says no free sectors available. I feel that both these issues are related. I think once the parted problem is fixed, boot loader installation will also be sucessfull. Please correct me if I am wrong.

In the mean time can you suggest anything to work around the problem??? If there is no workaround possible, I will use sfdisk/fdisk instead of parted and do the partitioning myself in the autoinstall.template file. Is it OK???

Thanks a lot.

3.6.3-1 is the version I am using.... (This is the rpm systemimager-server-3.6.3-1.noarch.rpm) Is that problem present in 3.6.3 also???

The problem I was actually trying to debug is....
1. Golden client has a disk connected as /dev/hda
2. OS installation in a new PC is successful if the new PC has a disk connected as /dev/hda
3. But boot loader (grub) installation fails if the new PC has the disk connected to hdb instead of hda.
4. I have already included /boot/grub/device.map in the "DISK EDITS" section of the autoinstall template file. (/etc/systemimager/autoinstallscript.template)

Note: I have the disk labels in /etc/fstab instead of the the device path.
(i.e.)  / instead of /dev/hda1 and swap instead of /dev/hda2 etc

Conclusion: There are 2 issues I am looking into.
Problem #1: "partition does not end in cylinder boundary"
Problem #2: grub installation fails if disk is NOT connected to /dev/hda.

Okay somebody using SystemImager 3.7.3 just confirmed this on Fedora Core 5.  We'll have to investigate...  Thanks for letting us know.

Are you having problems?  Or you are just worried about the parted "warning"?

Subject: [Sisuite-users] Partition does not end on a cylinder boundary

Installed FC5 in a PC using system imager (after setting up golden client, systemimager server etc etc )
Sucessfully installed the OS, but noticed that, when I print the disk partition table using fdisk it says, "partition does not end in a cylinder boundary"

Systemimager uses the "parted" command to do the disk partitioning. I feel "parted" is supposed to round off the partition size to the nearest cylinder boundary, which it is not doing.  (Correct me if I am wrong)

How can I fix this...... Please help
