Has anyone ever tried running si_updateclient at shutdown/reboot? It would ensure that no users are logged on whilst the update process is happening and so remove any possible risk that and update overwrites something they're using at the time, and it encourages people to turn off their machines when they're not using them, (as in the new version of Matlab is available and yes you can have it just make sure to turn off your machine tonight), and hence save electricity. (Where I work just created the post of environmental officer.) It would also remove any worries about updates that require a reboot to take effect such as a new kernel.
Presumably you could put a script that calls si_upateclient in /etc/init.d and link it from /etc/rc0 and rc6.d. Not sure where it should be called in relation to other scripts though. cheers, mike ------------------------------------------------------------------------- Using Tomcat but need to do more?
