Hi Andrew:

While we can definitely help you with multicast, have you considered using the new BitTorrent transport (which is included in the version of SystemImager you have installed)?

I am much more familiar with bittorrent than flamethrower/multicast and can provide you with more help.

Here are some documentation regarding BitTorrent:

Cheers,

Bernard

Subject: [Sisuite-users] Multicast install with flamethrower

Dear listmembers,

I've read all the posts about flamethrower/multicast issues but couldn't find a solution to my problem. I have to transfer a 33GB image onto 20 PC-s and I want to use multicast install. I'm using systemImager 3.7.4r3734_bli and flamethrower 0.1.8. Everything works well, the clients boot up using PXE network boot, flamethrower_directory, autoinstall_scripts, boel_binaries get transfered via tar pipe. But when it comes to transfering the main image, it waits for the tar pipe from the server forever:

Listening to multicast ....

Nothing happens after this, it stucks forever at this step.

I read that large images (above 1GB), the tmpfs gets full and install bails out with an error, but it seems to have been corrected and the untar writes directly to the disk instead of ramdisk. Am I right? I don't even get any error messages. On the server, the udp-sender and tar processes are sleeping (S or D) and even there is no network traffic between the server and the clients, neither disk activity on the clients.

I'm posting this letter because I feel totally lost with installing my CAD laboratory using multicast install (unicast with rsync method works) and think I have read all the relevant topics but nothing helped.

Please give me an advice how to solve this!

Thank you in advance!

Cheers
Andrew
