I discovered the cause of this issue. In the chrooted (/a) the /etc/mtab is
empty and when grub-install runs it uses "df" to determine the root device.
With /etc/mtab empty df errors out and so does grub-install. I just tested the
following
cp /a/proc/mounts /a/etc/mtab
chroot /a
grub-install /dev/hda
This works!
I am running suse10 with systemimager 3.6.3-1 and systemconfigurator-2.2.2-1.
So should systemconfigurator fix the mtab before running grub-install?
