Hi,
I have been reading through the archives, and haven't found any solutions
to my problem, but found another user looking for the same type of
solution...
Is there a way to use systemimager to take a full backup, and then use
si_mkautoinstallcd to create a bootable image with the entire image in
the iso file so the installation runs through the files on the disk and
restores
the system to original shape all from the cdrom/DVD without rsync?
Thanks!
[sisuite-users] Can systemimager be used for off-site recovery?

Hi all,
I'm a returning SI user, and I'm confident SI is the solution for us for
Linux cluster provisioning, and on-site backup and bare metal recovery of
Linux hosts.
I'm not sure how to do OFF-site bare metal recovery in a disaster scenario
(ie, only have access to the images files, not the rsync server). Is
anyone
doing this?
We have an agreement with an off-site DC that will allow us to replicate
our
images to an off-site NAS.
* Is there any way to recover from images kept on a NAS server, using
something like NFS or FTP, instead of rsync, so that we don't have to
build
up an SI server on the remote location?
* What is the minimal functionality needed for an off-site
systemImager server, if we don't need PXEboot, and we're able to boot all
of
our rebuild nodes off CD, and specify all network information by hand? Is
it just an rsync server? In which case, could a Sun running rsync be
used? (We will have a Sun available off-site.)
* If not, is there an easy way to bootstrap recover our SI server in
an offsite location?
Goran
