April 14, 2009 OMAHA, Neb. -- Leading scholars are at the University of Nebraska at Omaha campus for the eighth annual Malcolm X Festival, a two-day event that examines the life of the famous Omaha native. The festival will take on a number of topics, like the deconstruction of hip-hop, diversity and the history of blacks in north Omaha. Malcolm X was assassinated 44 years ago. "His legacy lives on," said UNO Black Studies Department Chairman Omowale Akintunde. "Malcolm challenged the paradigms of his day. He challenged the things we thought were normal. He gave us the power to envision and to speak and gave a voice to the voiceless." Author, professor and talk show host Michael Eric Dyson will be the event's gust speaker. Dyson will speak at 6 p.m. on Wednesday. . --~--~---------~--~----~------------~-------~--~----~ You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "Sixties-L" group.
