Theodore Bikel: The First 85 Years celebrates the actor's rich career
devoted to art and activism June 15 at Carnegie Hall.

The 7:30 PM concert in the Stern Auditorium/Perelman Stage boasts the
talents of emcee Alan Alda, Arlo Guthrie, Noel Paul Stookey and Peter
Yarrow, Tom Paxton, Susan Werner, David Amram, Judy Kaye, Beyond the
Pale, Artie Butler, Patricia Conolly, David Krakauer, Hankus Netsky,
Sarah Horowitz, Serendipity 4 (Shura Lipovsky, Merima Kljuco, Tamara
Brooks and Bikel) and Michael Wex.

Proceeds benefit Juvenile Law Center, which works to protect
children's rights and interests in the child welfare and juvenile
justice systems.

In a previous statement Bikel said, "Throughout my life I have been
equally passionate about music and social justice, and have allied
myself with others whose use guitars, banjos, fiddles and words to
conquer fear and injustice. I can think of no better way to celebrate
that life than a night of music with some of my nearest and dearest
friends, and no more deserving cause than protecting the rights of
our nation's most vulnerable children."

Bikel received a Tony nomination for originating the role of Captain
von Trapp in Broadway's The Sound of Music. His other Broadway
credits include The Lark, The Inspector General and The Rope Dancers,
for which he received another Tony nomination. He was nominated for
an Oscar for the 1958 film "The Defiant Ones," and his other film
credits include "The African Queen," "The Enemy Below" and "The
Russians Are Coming, the Russians Are Coming." His recent one-man
show is titled Sholom Aleichem: Laughter Through Tears.
