Using a deft, human touch Stonewall Uprising contextualizes and illuminates the events of late June 1969 that changed queer lives forever.

Based on David Carter's book Stonewall: The Riots That Sparked A Gay Revolution, the film uses footage from the era, mixing it with recreated images and film to set the scene. Most compelling are the interviews with participants from both sides of the riots. All of whom speak frankly and emotively, about their part in civil rights history.

By adhering strictly to facts and these, often hilarious, eyewitness accounts Stonewall Uprising explodes many of the myths that have sprung up around these momentous few days. What is left is an absorbing, clear-eyed document of a life-changing event, anchored solidly in the socio-political climate of the time.

Essential viewing then, for those with little knowledge of the skirmish that birthed the gay rights movement, but also for those who think they've heard it all before.
