Q: My parents were part of The Beatles generation and I want to put
together a neat fan-based trip for them. Any suggestions? J. Hou,
Etobicoke
A: John Lennon would have turned 70 this year and celebrations
honouring the legendary Beatle are planned in Liverpool, his hometown.
The city has declared a John Lennon Tribute Season, which starts on
his birthday, Oct. 9, and ends Dec. 9 30 years plus one day after
his tragic death in 1980.
Mike Storey, Liverpool's lord mayor, has asked Beatles' fan Ozzy
Osbourne and his wife Sharon to lead the birthday celebrations. Watch
for music, film, arts and poetry events organized by the Beatles
Story, Cavern City Tours, the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra,
Mersey Partnership, Liverpool One and Liverpool City Council.
Cavern City Tours has special events scheduled. Imagine The Tribute,
a John Lennon tribute show runs daily at the Cavern Club; John
Lennon's 70th Birthday Celebration is scheduled for Oct. 8 and Oct.
9. For ticket prices and info, see visit cavernclub.org. A 90-minute
city centre walking tour of Lennon's Liverpool is scheduled Oct. 9
and Dec. 9. Tickets are about $8.
No names have been released yet but organizers say big name acts are
lined up for Lennon Remembered, a memorial concert Dec. 9 at the Echo
Arena. Ticket prices run $30-$57 with limited VIP packages available
at $252. For tickets, contact the Echo Arena (echoarena.com),
Ticketmaster (ticketmaster.co.uk), Ticketline (ticketline.co.uk) and
See Tickets (seetickets.com).
Also bookmark beatlesstory.com for trip ideas. This Beatles-themed
museum in Liverpool is a must-see for any fan, which promises to
transport visitors on a journey into the life, times, culture and
music. The experience is accompanied by the Living History audio
guide narrated by Lennon's sister Julia.
