Black Panther Party Leader to Speak

BLOOMINGTON, Ill. 胖avid Hilliard, a founding member of the Black
Panther Party will speak at the Hansen Student Center (300 Beecher,
St., Bloomington) on the Illinois Wesleyan University campus
Thursday, Nov. 11 at 7 p.m. Hilliard's address entitled, 'What was
the Black Panther Party: Is it a Model for Today,' is free and open
to the public.
The event is sponsored by the IWU Office of Multicultural Affairs.
Hilliard will focus on the historical context of the Black Panther
Party, as well as the current day efforts of the Huey P. Newton
Foundation. The address will be followed by a question and answer session.
Founded in 1993 in Oakland, Cali., the Huey P. Newton Foundation is
committed to honoring the legacy of Black Panther Party co-founder
Huey P. Newton and effecting progressive social change by teaching
practical lessons of community service.
The foundation works with the Black Panther Party to enhance
community awareness about their free social service programs such as
the Party's Sickle Cell Anemia Research.
