"Alice's Restaurant Massacree" is an album released in 1967 by singer
Arlo Guthrie, son of the legendary Woodie Guthrie. Set against a
Thanksgiving backdrop, the popular song "Alice's Restaurant" and the
remainder of the album is an anti-war protest. Hence, Arlo Guthrie
and "Alice's Restaurant" have become Thanksgiving traditions. Arlo
Guthrie is also set to play at Carnegie Hall this coming Saturday,
November 27, along with his children Abe and Sarah Lee.
According to JamBands.com, Arlo Guthrie appeared earlier on
Thanksgiving morning as part of the Macy'
s Thanksgiving Day Parade. He and his family are doing the town
around New York City over the long holiday weekend, commencing in the
show at Carnegie Hall on Saturday night.
Prior to today's Macy's Parade, Arlo Guthrie gave a statement to the
media expressing his excitement about riding on a float in the
Thanksgiving Day Parade.
"I haven't been in a parade for many years," Guthrie said. "The last
time was in Pittsfield. This oughtta be fun! See you there or on TV."
If you don't know Arlo Guthrie's music you must download "Alice's
Restaurant" and get to know this iconic folk singer. If you missed
Arlo Guthrie in this morning's Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade, you
can catch clips on MSNBC.com. And if you're in or near New York and
can get to Carnegie Hall on Saturday night, you're in for the treat
of a lifetime.
Arlo Guthrie and Thanksgiving have gone hand and hand for decades.
Let's carry on the tradition by enjoying a little Arlo Guthrie now!
