Bob~ I will try to explain this as simply as I know how. SOCIALISM is generally based on the principle of Democracy. What that means at simplest is that the MAJORITY RULES! It has been transliterated as “Mobocracy”. Now to date NO country has ever been ruled under pure “democracy” as those who set it up only use the idea as a springboard to rule. The first really successful operation of the idea of “common” ownership controlled by a governing body was that accomplished by Nimrod this was around 4,000BC and 2,000 years before Abraham (1,900 BC). This early government shared “ownership” scheme was taken back to Rome around 300-250BC. Democracy ain’t a new idea! The notion of the “Republic” began after the flood and grew into ideals around the time of Abraham. It was never widespread in practice until the Exodus terminated in Israel and it was developed at the start by Moses. There, (Pentateuch) it is what we call the Rule of Tens or the Rule of Hundreds, where the best and brightest are picked to represent a larger and larger group beginning with ten Men! The slip has always been in both the interest of Men to participate in self governance and the “leadership” remaining honest so as to not falsely preclude honest elections. In Democracy the rights of the people are never allowed to settle into being controlled by the individual, the primary consideration always being in conformity to the majority of opinion relative to government operation with all allegiance to the Compelling State Interest. In the Republic the emphasis always remains with the individual and individual rights, emphasizing consideration of the individuals welfare and not that of the State (i.e. individual in the state having predominance over the interests of the State or the STATE), self governance being the focus of society and society is not the focus of the individual. In the republic the consent rests with the individual over the masses whereas in democracy the consent of the majority rests upon all. ~Hal~
