Dear Skim developers, first of all, thank you for developing Skim --- by far the best pdf viewer that has ever existed.
I write just to turn your attention to the fact that AlphaX since version 8.2b2 (released in September) has preconfigured support for pdfsync'ing with Skim. All you need to do is to select Skim in the popup of pdf viewers in AlphaX's preferences. I would like to suggest that Skim offer a preset for sync'ing with AlphaX. The settings are simple: Command: alphac Arguments: +%line "%file" (This is the same convention as many other editors. The script alphac resides inside the AlphaX bundle at /Applications/AlphaX.app/Contents/Resources/alphac, and Skim is clever enough to look there -- of course!) (In the other direction there is nothing for Skim to set up. AlphaX communicates tightly with Skim through raw Apple events, and it works like a charm, thanks to the thoughtful design of Skim's Apple event dictionary. One may note that Skim's preference "Check for file changes" should not be checked when sync'ing from AlphaX, since AlphaX takes care of sending the refresh command when appropriate.) Thanks for your attention. Joachim. PS: I read on this list some remark by some developer that he didn't have an AlphaX licence. It shouldn't really be needed. Although it says it is shareware, it is not enforced in any way. There is unlimited 'try-it-out period' with full functionality, no registration code ever to enter, and if anybody actually ends up on the registration page he will see that the listed versions are those of 10 years ago, when the original author, Peter Keleher, abandoned Alpha and thrusted the further development to the Alpha Cabal. Large parts of Alpha's code base, are in fact open source. It is unfortunate that the last part still is not, and that AlphaX has to be classified as shareware. But it is still one of the most powerful editors around -- almost an operating system in itself -- and we are many who swear to it. Here is a link to the home page, from where there are only two clicks to the download: http://alphatcl.sourceforge.net Don't hesitate to ask if you have further questions about Alpha. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ _______________________________________________ skim-app-develop mailing list skim-app-develop@lists.sourceforge.net https://lists.sourceforge.net/lists/listinfo/skim-app-develop
