I wish this were the case, but the error does occur even when the PDF  
has no notes. As a point of clarification, I am opening PDFs on a  
shared network volume, OS X v. 10.5.3 running on both machines. My  
layperson's guess is that this is a problem with EAs over the network  
which has been covered on this list as an OS X 10.5 bug.

While I fully anticipate that the finger of blame should be pointed at  
Apple, empirical evidence reveals that this issue does not appear in  
Skim 1.1.4 but does appear in Skim 1.1.5 through 1.1.7, with the OS  
10.5 EA bug (such as it may be) unchanged.
