But is the margin around a freehand note necessary? I guess it is to increase visibility of small notes, but couldn't that be accomplished by just showing a larger frame? The behaviour as of now is inconsistent, as it's apparently fine to draw frehand notes even across page bounds (and lines are shown up to what seems to be the limits of the page shadow when zoomed out). Also, these notes are saved and opened without problems, and when saved as embedded notes, Acrobat shows the full line art (even parts clipped by Skim); Preview however will clip at media box bounds.
