If I wanted to do what Franz-Josef wants to do, I would think about setting
up some macros using Keyboard Maestro. (I am sure that there are other
programs at least as capable, but that is what I use).

And, yes, kudos to Christiaan, I use Skim all the time, and would spend
much more time swearing at my computer if it didn't exist.
