A not fully written file cannot be the problem. Loading it does not lead to
a crash, and moreover we explicitly wait until the end marker of the file
was written.

Perhaps you can send me a crash report off list, then I may be able to see
why it crashes.

Also you may want to read our Wiki page on pdf-tex syncing, watching the
file has its vulnerabilities.
