There should not be any restriction on the path length AFAIK. I have also never 
heard about such problems. I doubt this is really the problem. Could it not be 
some other difference, such as the use of special characters in the path (I 
don’t see that in your message, but perhaps that was just for example)? There 
can be problems with certain special characters in handling synctex.
