Thanks for the hint. Adding a DB_CONFIG file and increasing the mutex to 2^16 helped so far (though I had to do it for BOTH (!) databases, DB and Ptree, and the used mutexes for Ptree is still increasing at currently about 10000.
Is this normal? Can't we just increase the defaults in the source code? Cheers, Chris.
