not sure if this is what you want (and it won't work on a Mac) but Avid has
some software (ePublisher) that allows you to embed video files into a page
and based on the time code, up to 3 other windows (full of text or graphics
and even animations) will come up during the playing of the movie
I made a (not great) example of this as a test, but it doesn't always play
well, definitely not on a mac, and you need real:
