i'll give it a try.

i still think it's a incorrect use of limit magnitude per all the other 
places it's used. if it is an offset it needs to be better described in the 
help files.

personally i'd prefer it to be consistent with limiting magnitude as it has 
been traditionally used: a clip on things which are less visible (greater 
number) than what is in the limit dialog.

Jim,
Think of the magnitude limit on labels as an offset. If you have the
limit in the nebula catalog for the displayed FOV set at 9 and the
label offset "limit" set at 0 then it should label every thing down
to mag 9. If you have the label limit set at 6 then it should only
label everything down to mag 3.
