Good evening to all,

OK this is my first message here, though I've been a member of this group
for about two weeks, so let me first introduce myself.

My name is Pierre Paquette, yes I am French speaking, but English has always
been very present in my life, specially more so since I have an
English-speaking girlfriend since August 2004. ;-) I live in Montral,
Qubec, Canada, but considering the light pollution there, I generally
observe from other places, typically a private land located about 60km NNE
of it.

I've been an amateur astronomer for 2/3 of my life, i.e. for 20 years now.
I'm 31 years old. At the age of 20, I became the (youngest ever) president
of the Montreal Astronomical Society (la Socit d'astronomie de Montral)
and the Montreal French Centre of the Royal Astronomical Society of Canada.
I served a 1-year term, then founded the Polaris Amateur Astronomers Group.

I've been using Cartes du Ciel / SkyCharts for about 3 years now, I lost
track really (I used it on many different computers, none of the old ones
still in my possession). I use it in English since November; before, it was
in French. (Yes I know I can change it in Preferences -> Language, but I
prefer it in English now that my whole system is in English since an
unwanted reformat by the repair guy.)

So that's it for my presentation. Should any of you want to know more, just
feel free to ask. My website is www.starpete.tk and contains some
information about astronomy, in both French and English, whereas that of the
Polaris Group, www.astropolaris.ca, is only in French.

My question now...
Is there a way to NOT display the horizon in horizontal projection? The
closest I found is to set it to black and leave the "Invisible" option
unchecked in the "Chart appearances", but that leaves a (white) line where
the horizon is, though I can see the stars through it.

P.S. To answer John Malony's question: the French word "cartes" comes from
the Latin word "charta", meaning "paper", and apparently it's the case for
the English word "chart" as well.

une de ces nuits / See you in the dark!
