Probably what you have is NGC 2000 active on your desktop and just the SAC active on the laptop. The NGC contains all the NGC and IC objects where the SAC does not have the dimmer IC's but contains entries from a variety of other catalogs. As far as the star catalogs the Hubble Guide Star catalog will get you down to mag 16 if you need more you may want to get USNO-A or the smaller USAC2 which go to about mag 18. Look at http://cdsweb.u-strasbg.fr/cats/Cats.htx for more info and a source for the catalogs. If you have good Internet access, the newest version of CdC supports the USNO-B1 catalog. Which is will get to Vmag of 21.

I was trying to identify a faint edge-on galaxy I'd photographed in the same field with M51/NGC 5195. I wasn't sure whether it was NGC 5198, NGC 5169, or NGC 5173, since it was the only one in my field. It didn't show up in Night Sky Observer's Guide. Uranometria added another possibility, IC 4263. > > So then I started looking up IC 4263 in CdC and on the web. I was surprised to find that my CdC on my desktop shows IC 4263, but CdC on my laptop doesn't. Obviously I need to load another catalog. Can you tell me the name of the catalog or file I should be looking for? > > My mystery galaxy did turn out to be IC 4263, based on the star patterns in a photo I found on the web. My desktop installation of CdC doesn't show any stars in the area between IC 4263 and M51, even though I can clearly see a dozen in my photos. So again, I need to load a star catalog or two to help me identify the objects I'm looking for. What are the best star catalogs to load for this purpose. > > Darrell > > ___________________________________________________________________ > Speed up your surfing with Juno SpeedBand. > Now includes pop-up blocker! > Only $14.95/month -visit http://www.juno.com/surf to sign up today! ------------------------ Yahoo!
