I'm not sure what the answer is but for now I'm sticking with 2.76. It's a
lot faster and various preferences are easier to edit because they are
accessible right from the toolbar. With 2.76 when you install the various
catalogs they are enabled right away (.exes). The .zips are generated with
catgen and must be loaded explicitly. This part is a bit nebulous (pun
intended!) to me as well.
Is there any particular reason you want to run 3.0 except for wanting the
latest/greatest?

In version 2.76 you can right click and select object information from
the menu. This does not seem to be possible in version 3.0.0.8. Will
it be added in to 3.0.0.9?
Is 3.0.0.9 coming soon?
