Try with the last snapshot available here:
http://www.ap-i.net/skychart/snapshot/
Get the "debug" version and run with gdb as indicated on this page. This
produce a useful trace to know where the program is crashing.
Also note that on Linux you need to install XPlanet 1.2 to show the
planet images.
The last snapshot no longer crash if XPlanet is missing but I need to
add some error message in this case.
