I also use Skychart on Ubuntu. I find it terribly slow, though, so I don't use it much. I don't think it's Skychart's fault as such - I suspect it's to do with the display drivers as some other applications (e.g., Google Earth) are impossibly slow. Just haven't got round to sorting that out yet as it doesn't affect anything I use a lot. Don't quite know why you are getting a lot of funny-looking characters though I suspect something odd is happening in your browser so it's misidentifying the file as text. > Where else can I get that installer? Skycharts is on Sourceforge and you can access it as a Debian repository using Synaptic or the lower level Debian package management tools. Add the repository to your system by editing the file /etc/apt/sources.list to add the line: deb http://osdn.dl.sourceforge.net/sourceforge/ skychart/ You can then install Skycharts like any other Ubuntu package and you'll get updates in the normal way - that's how I got this version. I think you can also edit the sources.list file use Synaptic's Software Preferences dialog but I have limited faith in this: though the dialog box is called "Software Preferences" it is accessed via Settings->Repositories, but is not to be confused with the Preferences dialog accessed via Settings->Preferences but that's obvious because the help text tells you ...wait for it... to use the Repositories dialog which is accessed via Preferences->Repositories. Sigh! Ed.
