You used the term "animation" at first, but then said "simulation".  Animation
is done with the stopwatch icon (upper left toolbar), and shows only one image
at a time.  That's what I was looking at at first, but your subject line says
"simulation".  Simulation is done in the time settings (clock icon, lower left
toolbar) and shows multiple images, and with that I get something like what
you're describing when viewing the moon or sun.  But the effect disappears when
I change the "no. of runs" back to 1 step.
