Hi Geoff

We already have the encoder fitted and working. ATM it works with a
DOS application written by one of or ex-members which simply
reads it like a mouse using the built in mouse driver.

But as Chris said using it with another mouse might be difficult,
though I have actually known two mice to work together in Windows.
A PS2 and USB, anyway I will look at the source when I eventually
managed to get it to download.

Why can't they simply provide it in a zip archive for download, I hate
it when you have to go through the rigmorole of installing software
that hooks into explorer and slows the whole system down just
because you want one file.

Actually, we thought about upgrading the encoders to USB. Has
anybody done this? The problem with the serial encoder is you
can't move the scope quickly as it overloads the serial port.

  Andrew,

You could make a Dave Ek encoder box which plugs into your serial port.
It works fantastically well for my two scopes,I've done it for my 8"
  and 12":

I don't know if Dave's box will work with mouse encoders but you could
email him, he's very approachable. Here's his website:

  Good luck! --geoff
