try doing a Ctrl-click on the object. That selects it.

About the caldwell catalog, it could be it doesn't have an index which 
would make it unsearchable. I've also noticed problems with searching 
though, as I posted recently. The Lynd's catalog contains objects that 
show up fine in the chart but are not searcheable. That's a shame 
because one of the reasons to have a planetarium is to search for objects :)
