Hi list! Yes, it's a good question. Skype's own knowledge base is mute on this subject. I just changed my status to not available. Walked across to my wife's computer and had a look at her Skype contact list. It said I was unavailable. Knowing that I was very busy, I did something very naughty.--I gave myself a call. Guess what happened? My Skype rang and said she was calling me.
OK so what it proves is that this not available status means little in the context of people on your contact list because it doesn't keep calls from coming in from people on the contact list. I suppose it might be a good way to imply you prefer not to be called just now, but it seems to me that an implication is the most meaning it can have. My call didn't auto forward or go to voicemail, so that status doesn't change the way Skype behaves.
