As promised earlier in this thread, I have written a description of the SkypeWatch status announcement problem. The description includes a workaround and a solution. I am not posting the whole thing here because it is long and written in HTML, but the direct URL to this is
http://www.dlee.org/skype/faq_calc.php In summary, there is a function called StringCompare that is built into JAWS as of JAWS 6.1 or so, but there is also a StringCompare function in the Windows Calculator scripts if you are using a JAWS version older than JAWS 9.0. These two functions do not return the same result, so when SkypeWatch calls StringCompare expecting one thing, it gets the opposite result--in effect, "yes" becomes "no" and "no" becomes "yes" while the Windows Calculator is in focus. The workaround is to disable the automatic announcements of status changes. The actual solution requires editing the scripts for the Windows Calculator. Steps for these operations, along with more details, are posted at the above site. That page is also accessible from the Frequently Asked Questions page on my site now. -- Doug Lee dgl at dlee.org SSB BART Group doug.lee at ssbbartgroup.com http://www.ssbbartgroup.com Don't be afraid your life will end; be afraid that itwill never begin. -- Grace Hansen
