Alexandra, It is possible to review/modify what you are writing in the same edit area, use the arrow keys.
You can also review chat messages using ALT+1-0, where ALT+1 will give you the last message and ALT+0 will give you the tenth to last message and all of the numbers in between will work. A double tap of the number will virtualize the chat window.
