I hope to put out a beta script release for Skype 4.0 beta3 very soon,
but I'm issuing a heads-up in advance because I know a few things
about the script release already.

First, when I make the release, it will replace all previous beta
script releases on my web site, and the release notes will also be
replaced. This is because there's no need to provide support for
obsolete Skype beta versions, and I'm starting to taylor scripts
to specific Skype releases again as things stabilize in Skype 4.

Second, I am at this time not able to offer SkypeWatch under Skype
4, so it may not actually be included in the upcoming script release.
SkypeWatch has never worked in any Skype 4 beta because the Skype
alerts are not accessible. I have asked Skype to implement a system
for reporting alerts that should work with more screen readers than
just JAWS, but that system is not here in Skype 4 beta3. My intention
is to eliminate the need for the SkypeWatch scripts, with their
hairy installation procedure (<smile>), by getting Skype to give
us enough that we no longer need that. If that doesn't happen, we
can always go back and do what we can with scripts. In Skype 4
beta3 though, alerts are not accessible, so I can't provide that
functionality right now. SKRead probably does work with this Skype
beta though.

To answer a question I saw raised earlier about Compact view in Skype
4: Yes, sort of... Compact view will make chats, which are now called
conversations, appear in separate windows, allowing access to them via
Alt+Tab. It will also make the footprint of Skype itself much
narrower. It will not, however, make Skype 4 work flawlessly (if at
all) with the current Skype 3.x scripts. In fact, I'm curious ... If
anyone dares to try that configuration, let us know what happened,
assuming nothing explodes because of the attempt. <silly grin>
