Using desktop computer with Windows XP Home SP3, firewall is router. Been using Skype 3.8 successfully without JAWS scripts here. I only use Skype's call feature to make Skype to Skype and Skype to land line calls. I also set Skype 3.8 various settings to be more accessible like the hotkeys to be enabled and accessibility submenu both options have been enabled here (simplified graphics). I am using JAWS 10 screen reader.
Yesterday I went to Skype's help menu and chose check for updates and got the dialog/popup message saying a new version was available so I ran the download and installation. The installation was complete message came up and chose finish button. During the setup I told Skype to not automatically launch for me. I then was presented with the Skype sign in screen. I entered my username and password and chose the different looking log in button. I did not hear the usual Skype log in sound that you hear when successfully into Skype 3.8. The status bar reads as "Signing In" and I do hear Skype, Tools, Help menus when I use my alt keyboard key. Thinking here. When I ran Skype 4.0 from the Programs Group via start menu should I have left the username and password fields empty and just have chosen the log in button? Because I am an existing user/member already and the next screen that would appear that will ask me for my username and password. This is what I did when I uninstalled Skype 4.0 from control panels's add/remove area and reinstalled version 3.8. Skype 4.0 was then closed by me. I went to Doug Lee's Skype 40A .exe scripts page. Downloaded the .exe on my hard drive and ran the .exe scripts. The scripts did go in my Settings\ENU folder. I went to this directory\folder to be sure they were there. Can you please tell me exactly how many files this Skype 40A script installed in my ENU folder. Thank you. So I ran Skype 4.0 again. The Skype log in screen appears. Should I enter no information here for username and password and just choose log in button since I am an existing registered user? This is the case for me when I reinstalled Skype 3.8 since Skype 4.0 didn't work for me. If I enter my usermane and password and chooses log in button Skype 4.0 saids signing in in status bar and sits there and I do not hear the sound that Skype 3.8 made that I am signed in. So I uninstalled the Skype 4.0 using add/remove. I did backup my Skype contacts .vcf file. When the uninstall was successful I was asked to restart my computer. All worked fine. I then went to my JAWS \ENU\ folder and removed all the Skype scripts entries to another folder on my secondary hard drive just in case. What am I doing wrong? I am using Skype 3.8 with no issues here and no JAWS scripts are being used. I had to reconfigure my webcam again. Any help with this is greatly appreciated. Petro.
